“Macunaíma is one of the most important Brazilian literary works. It portrays the reverse of the national culture, from the perspective of a hero with no character: Macunaíma, born in the Amazon Forest. The adaptation for comics brought speed to the adventures that happen out of space and time. The symbolic displacement of the character can be perceived in the context of the narrative and in the visual representations worked by cartoonists, who emphasized the rascality and the folkloric richness of the original work”.
